Mental Health Resources

Granville County Public Schools is committed to supporting student mental well-being. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health.

"Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being, which means it affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress in our lives, relate to others, and what choices we make. When we experience good mental health, it doesn’t mean we are always in a good mood, nor does it prevent the stresses of life from coming our way.  But, it does help us cope with them so we can continue to engage productively in our everyday lives." - mentalhealthliteracy.org

Our schools promote mental health during the school day through our instructional programs. Families are an important part of supporting student mental health. The resources on this page can be used at home to promote mental health in the home.

Concerned About Your Child's Mental Health? Start a Conversation...

WITH YOUR CHILD'S DOCTOR

  • Be prepared with questions
  • Ask about further evaluation and diagnosis

WITH YOUR CHILD

  • Ask them questions about the things they enjoy
  • Listen to their thoughts and feelings
  • Describe what works for you or how you approach mental health in your own life
  • Use a neutral tone - do not assume they are feeling a certain way
  • Have this conversation in a quiet place with little distraction
  • Share something about your day first - be open about your thoughts and feelings
WITH YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER

  • Let the teacher know if you recognize change in your child at home during the school year
